With the rising cost of higher education, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to land a high paying job without going into some serious debt. As an accounting major you’re supposed to be good with numbers – so why would you overpay for an accounting degree? Luckily, there are several accounting programs across the US that combine a top-notch college degree with low-cost tuition.
1) University of Texas Austin
The University of Texas Austin is one of the largest universities in the nation with over 50,000 students enrolled. The college is so large that it’s divided into 18 individual schools and colleges. With over 900 clubs and organizations on campus you’ll never run out of things to do.
According to U.S. News, The University of Texas Austin is home to the #1 accounting program in the nation and tied for the 5th best business program as well.
With in-state tuition at roughly $10,000, this accounting program is the biggest bang for your buck.
2) Baruch College – New York, New York
Baruch College is a City University of New York (CUNY) institution in Manhattan. It is one of the smaller schools in Manhattan with roughly 15,000 undergraduate students enrolled. Although the school might be small by NYC university standards, it is still located in one of the largest cities in the world.
The job prospects for graduating accounting students is endless with some of the largest accounting firms having offices in Manhattan. Not to mention, NYC has the highest salary for accounting majors in the US.
Not only will you have great job prospects but you’ll also graduate with relatively zero student loan debt. In-state tuition is under $7,000 a year – that is unheard of for a top ranked university in the Northeast. Combine that with financial aid and the new Excelsior Scholarship and you could go to college for free!
3) Brigham Young University – Provo, Utah
If you’re mormon, want a degree in accounting, and don’t want to pay too much then BYU is the school for you! With over 30,000 undergraduate students enrolled, BYU is one of the largest universities in the state. This university is known for it’s strict moral code, it’s NFL caliber football team, and it’s ridiculously low tuition fees which are less than $6,000 per year.
Not only is this university affordable but it’s ranked #3 for accounting programs in the nation, according to US News.
4) University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, Michigan
The University on Ann Arbor is one of the most well renowned universities in the nation. It’s enrollment hovers around 30,000 and is one of the most difficult universities to gain acceptance in Michigan. Roughly 1 out of 4 student will be accepted who apply.
The University is ranked in the top 5 accounting programs and the top 3 business programs according to US News. With big name recognition and a highly ranked accounting/business program you’d assume the price tag would match.
Although the $15,000 in-state tuition is still high when it comes to affordable colleges and universities,iv the price tag is a deep discount for a big name degree. For students who don’t want to pay for an Ivy League degree but want the same college experience then the University of Ann Arbor is right for you.
